Wow! What a great Labor Day weekend
This weekend owned big time.
It all began with the trek home on Friday after the rehearsal of the BRMM. After a long an interesting rehearsal of trying to learn entire band-day opener drill........it was finally time for a fun weekend at home! I trekked home with the Kelly from the flute section and of DGN-fame. It was a very quick and entertaining ride home, with us talking about lots of things, namely the marching band situation.
After I got home Friday night, it was time to chill and chat with the 'rentals. After a night of CSI and chillin, I got to bed for the day-long trek that was to follow on Saturday.
Saturday I got to see my EM ! We had been planning a trip up to Great America for about a month now, since our other one the week before band camp had been cancelled due to a doctor's visit for me (stupid acid reflux disease!) . So we finally had our chance to get up to good ol' Gurnee one last time this season.
I, honestly, went into this day thinking that the park would be very crowded due to the fact that it was a holiday weekend, and it was a Saturday (which is usually the most busiest day for any attraction anywhere). When we got to the park, we found out that we were wrong! There were not many crowds at all! It was a relatively empty day all day. This meant for short to non-existing lines! All of the roller-coasters were walk-ons to one-train waits, and the spinner rides were almost all walk-ons. We got about 24 rides in all day on various things! It was a spectacular day and a great way to finish off our 2005 coaster season! I was very happy and very tired upon our return to the D. of G Saturday night. WOOT for making it from Gurnee to Downtown Downers in about 50 mins!
Sunday morning was somemore time spent with the wonderful rentals. They opted to go to the zoo for some picture taking, as I am pretty sure that is becoming a big hobby of theirs. The zoo was nice. Most of the animals were out and about. Made for some great picture oppurtunities. The morning had absolutely beautiful weather! That made it for a better day. Props to the zoo for having an excellent outdoor barbeque set up (yummy brats!) and a neat zoo chat with one of my favorite animals, a Rodriguez Fruit Bat! That was a cool thing to see close-up. We opted to leave in the early afternoon because the crowds were definately starting to grow.
Sunday afternoon was spent gloriously encasing myself into the world of college football. I was very lucky that there were games on Sunday and on Labor Day as well since I missed the kickoffs on Saturday. I flipped on the Syracuse game and watched that for a while. Then the Kentucky/Louisville game was on so I watched some of that. BTW...did anyone know that Louisville was picked top ten in the nation this year? How 'bout that for a little team that came from Conference USA?
After a very tasty dinner of burger pie and all the fixins', I got to spend Sunday night with the wonderful Emily of mine ! We rented a movie called, "Going Greek". Essentially it was Animal House all over again mixed with American Pie. Very interesting movie! To all Sinfonians.....definately not a version of a Greek Life that we would ever endorse! For the rest of Sunday evening, well, lets just say that I will spare you any details *wink wink nudge nudge*.
Finally, Labor Day was the trek back to Normal in the latter hours of the morning. I also got to be a part of two good barbeques yesterday. The first one being steak at Kevin's (my sisters boyfriend) house. The cats were cute and fun to play with. My sister also make this triple fudge gooey chocolate cake which was pure heaven! After an afternoon of chilling out in the wonderful floor nine room (stupid idiots smoking pot down the hallway on my floor), I was summoned by Kevin to come on over and start the coals for the second barbeque. Good burgers and drinks were had by all! Amy also make this delicious chocolate cake for Kevins birthday earlier in the week!
My weekend ended last night with the wonderful news that Florida State beat Miami in ACC play (take that Hurricanes!)
Thank you to my EM, and rentals for such a good weekend! Now begins 8 long weeks of BRMM'ing and other ensembleing!
Oh and we all must remember DCI on ESPN 2 TONIGHT!!!! Hopefully a gathering of great proportions shall take place....
ISU.....Bring it on! |
